U.S. Space Force relaunches commercial software accelerator

The U.S. Space Force is relaunching its commercial software laboratory under a new name, the BMC3I TAP Lab, following an extensive restructuring. The overhaul aims to create a more effective pipeline for transitioning innovative software into operational “programs of record.”

Unlike its predecessor, the SDA TAP Lab, which operated on three-month cycles, the new BMC3I TAP Lab will utilize a staged approach expected to last approximately one year. The program will feature rotating focus areas, specifically targeting battle management, command, control, communications, and space intelligence capabilities.

Lt. Col. Collin Greiser, a System Delta 85 program leader, noted that while the previous model saw some success, transitioning technology to standard programs was often the exception. The new model seeks to solve this by integrating participants into the lab environment for code development and linking future funding to SpaceWERX and Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) phases.
