U.S. Special Operations Command expands Greenland training

U.S. Special Operations Command North has established Operation Apex Indigo, a new framework to consolidate all U.S. special operations activities in Greenland. Working alongside Denmark and Greenland, the command aims to expand training focused on cold-weather survival, movement across remote terrain, and operations with NATO Arctic allies.

The inaugural mission under this framework took place in August 2026. The operation is designed to facilitate recurring bilateral and multinational training to improve readiness and interoperability in extreme Arctic environments. U.S. Army Col. Matthew Tucker, commander of SOCNORTH, stated that the framework strengthens the ability to work with Danish and Greenlandic partners to support collective deterrence across the Arctic.
