US Spot Bitcoin ETFs Face $16.3 B Unrealized Losses Ahead of August 14 Disclosure

Wall Street’s US spot Bitcoin exchange‑traded funds are sitting on roughly $16.33 billion in unrealized losses, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. The average net cost basis of the capital in these ETFs is about $82,249 per Bitcoin, leaving positions roughly 22 % underwater.

Cumulative inflows into the spot Bitcoin ETFs have reached about $51.6 billion since launch, but recent outflows totalled $4.5 billion in June and $4.4 billion from mid‑May to early June, with only a modest $438 million net inflow in July. BlackRock’s IBIT remains the market’s liquidity anchor, holding about $47.7 billion in net assets.

On August 14, large investment managers must file Form 13F with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, revealing their Bitcoin ETF positions as of June 30. The filings will show whether institutional holders are maintaining exposure or quietly exiting, providing the clearest snapshot yet of the durability of institutional adoption of regulated Bitcoin products.
