US Track Nationals: Gabby Thomas skips championships, Noah Lyles posts world‑leading 100m

Olympic 200 m champion Gabby Thomas announced she will not compete at this weekend's U.S. Track and Field Championships in New York, saying she is focusing on full recovery from an Achilles issue rather than treating herself as injured. Thomas noted that five sub‑22 second runs this season have given her the most career victories at the distance for any woman. She will instead prioritize her Diamond League schedule, upcoming World Athletics Ultimate Championships and personal plans, including a wedding in October.

At the same championships, American sprinter Noah Lyles ran a world‑leading 9.79 seconds in the 100 m, improving the season’s best and matching his Olympic‑gold winning time from Paris 2024. Lyles finished ahead of compatriots Ronnie Baker and Kenny Bednarek, both under 9.90, and remains the 23rd fastest man ever. His performance responded to a recent Diamond League loss and reaffirms his top form heading into the next international season.
