US State Department monitors Imran Khan’s legal case and health
A senior US State Department official stated that Washington is closely monitoring the legal case and health status of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. The official noted that while the US is following the situation, its engagement is limited to these specific observations.
Imran Khan remains incarcerated in Adiala Jail following convictions in the Toshakhana case and a land corruption case. His political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has organized various protests seeking his release and expressing concern regarding his medical condition.
In response to planned protests on September 27, the Punjab provincial government has implemented Section 144, prohibiting public gatherings of five or more people until October 5. Authorities have also requested the deployment of Pakistan Rangers in several districts, including Rawalpindi and Jhelum. Additionally, three of Khan’s sisters—Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan, and Noreen Niazi—have been detained by police. The Lahore High Court recently declined to immediately suspend the detention orders for Uzma and Noreen, pending further responses from respondents.
