U.S. State Department revokes over 175,000 visas FAST-MOVING
The U.S. Department of State has revoked more than 175,000 visas from foreign nationals since the start of President Donald Trump’s second term in January 2025. The department stated that the revocations target individuals who violated visa terms, committed crimes, defrauded Americans, or posed threats to national security.
Most revocations followed law enforcement encounters. Primary reasons cited include assault, theft, drug-related offenses, and driving under the influence. Other specific cases involved charges of sexual assault, child abuse, kidnapping, and human trafficking. Additionally, the department noted that a U.S. embassy in North Africa revoked over 100 visas from parents involved in “birth tourism,” traveling to the U.S. primarily to secure citizenship for their children.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also utilized visa revocations for foreign policy reasons, targeting individuals with ties to the Cuban or Iranian regimes. The administration has also revoked visas for those who celebrated the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. As part of a broader immigration crackdown, the government has implemented stricter granting policies, including expanded social media vetting and increased scrutiny of applicants.
