Digital IDs: 22 US states support mobile driver's licenses

Twenty-two US states and territories now permit the use of digital driver's licenses and passports stored on smartphones. These digital credentials are designed to expedite movement through supported TSA checkpoints at airports, provided they meet Real ID requirements. They are not intended to replace physical identification entirely.

Compatibility varies by platform. Seventeen states support Apple Wallet, thirteen support Google Wallet, and nine support Samsung Wallet. Additionally, six states rely on state-developed third-party applications for mobile identification. Specific states such as Arizona, California, and West Virginia appear across multiple digital wallet platforms.
