US States Launch Investigation into OpenAI Over Data and Child‑Safety Practices

Several U.S. state attorneys general, including those of New York and Colorado, have opened a joint investigation into artificial‑intelligence startup OpenAI. The prosecutors have issued subpoenas for internal documents that detail how the company treats user data, protects minors, and conducts advertising.

OpenAI said it takes the concerns “seriously” and intends to engage in constructive dialogue with the authorities. The probe adds to mounting regulatory scrutiny of generative‑AI technologies, following recent actions such as the Trump administration’s ban on Anthropic’s models for foreign users and an executive order urging tech firms to submit new AI models for government review.
