US States Maine and Ohio Launch Multi‑Million Dollar Rail Infrastructure Grant Programs
Maine’s Department of Transportation announced the 2027 Industrial Rail Access Program (IRAP), a $2 million competitive grant initiative that will fund upgrades to freight rail lines, new sidings, intermodal facilities and other logistics projects. Applications are open until 1 Oct 2026, with selected projects expected to receive funding in Jan‑Feb 2027. A key condition requires applicants to provide at least 50 % of project costs from local or private sources.
In Ohio, the Ohio Rail Development Commission approved a $1.46 million grant package to support four rail improvement projects valued at more than $353 million. Funding will be used for bridge rehabilitation, track modernization and new freight‑transfer facilities, aiming to strengthen the state’s freight rail network and boost economic activity.
Both programs are part of broader state efforts to enhance rail logistics, attract investment and improve connectivity for businesses.
