US stock market faces valuation concerns amid AI shorting and record Buffett Indicator

Prominent investors and market indicators are signaling potential risks within the US stock market, particularly regarding high valuations in the technology and artificial intelligence sectors.

Investor Michael Burry, known for his successful bet against the 2008 housing market, has been actively shorting several companies linked to the AI industry. His positions include Nvidia, Micron, and various semiconductor ETFs. While some of his bets, such as Applied Materials, have seen success following price drops, others like Nebius Group have resulted in losses as AI-related stocks recover.

Simultaneously, the Buffett Indicator—which compares total US market capitalization to the nation's GDP—has reached a historical extreme of 238%. This suggests the stock market is valued at 2.4 times the size of the underlying economy, far exceeding the 100% level typically considered sustainable. While experts note that global revenues from US tech giants can skew this metric, the high valuation continues to fuel concerns about a potential market bubble.
