U.S. stock markets show mixed results amid semiconductor volatility

The New York stock market experienced mixed performance driven by volatility in the technology and semiconductor sectors. While the Dow Jones Industrial Average saw gains, the Nasdaq and S&P 500 faced downward pressure due to a sell-off in semiconductor and AI-related stocks, including Micron Technology, AMD, and Broadcom.

Investors reacted to shifting growth expectations and profit-taking in high-valuation tech companies. Despite a decline in long-term Treasury yields—aided by news that the U.S. Treasury might use its General Account to support debt buybacks—the downward trend in semiconductors offset the positive impact of lower interest rates.

Separately, financial software company Intuit reported fourth-quarter earnings that exceeded market expectations for both revenue and adjusted earnings per share. However, the company's stock fell significantly in after-hours trading because its revenue guidance for fiscal year 2027 was lower than market forecasts, signaling a slowdown in growth for its TurboTax and Mailchimp segments.
