U.S. research on undocumented immigration and crime (3 clusters)
US study finds lower crime rates in cities with high undocumented populations
A study analyzing more than 100 cities in the United States with high populations of undocumented immigrants between 2010 and 2018 found that crime rates actually decreased in these areas.
The research contradicts common public perceptions that link illegal immigration to increased violence. Instead, the eight-year data set indicates that the presence of undocumented residents was not associated with a rise in criminal activity, showing a downward trend in crime rates in the studied municipalities.
