Netflix to release ‘Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory’ in theaters in 2027

Netflix has announced the release schedule and cast for its upcoming animated feature, ‘Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory’. In a departure from its typical streaming-first model, the film will receive a wide global theatrical release on November 5, 2027, before arriving on the Netflix platform on December 22, 2027. Sony Pictures Entertainment will manage the international theatrical distribution.

Based on the world of Roald Dahl, the story follows Willy Wonka (voiced by Taika Waititi) as he attempts to rebuild his life after serving prison time for turning a child into a blueberry. The plot involves a group of teenagers, led by Charlie Paley (voiced by Kit Connor), who plan to break into the factory to steal a Wonka Bar to save their homes from eviction.

The star-studded voice cast includes Kate Winslet, Helena Bonham Carter, Nicola Coughlan, Charithra Chandran, Samson Kayo, and Christopher Chung. Directed by Jared Stern and Elaine Bogan, the film is part of Netflix’s expanding strategy to manage the Roald Dahl universe through theatrical windows for high-profile titles.
