The 2026 U.S. summer box office has set a new domestic record, earning approximately $4.765 billion between May 1 and September 7. This total narrowly surpasses the previous record of $4.756 billion established in 2013.

Major contributors to this surge include Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which earned roughly $923.5 million domestically and approximately $2.4 billion globally. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey also played a significant role, generating about $598 million domestically. Other notable performers included Toy Story 5, which earned approximately $480 million.

Industry analysts note that while the 2026 season benefited from a longer 130-day window, the performance represents a significant turnaround for theatrical moviegoing. The domestic box office as of September 7 is up 20.8 percent compared to the same period in 2025, signaling a potential recovery for the industry despite the continued ubiquity of streaming services.
