US Supreme Court Allows States to Ban Transgender Women from Female Sports

The United States Supreme Court issued a ruling affirming that states may prohibit transgender women and girls from competing on female school and college sports teams. Justice Brett Kavanaugh authored the majority opinion, concluding that Title IX does not prevent such bans and that legislatures may set their own policies. The decision follows similar rulings in West Virginia and Ohio and has prompted legal challenges.

In Washington state, 15‑year‑old wrestler Kallie Keeler filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction against state policies that require her to compete against biological males. Keeler alleges she was assaulted during a match when “shoved his fingers through her spandex clothing, digitally penetrating her vagina, and holding the position for several seconds.” Her attorneys claim the school district violated her Title IX and 14th Amendment rights by delaying the assault report and failing to notify law enforcement. The case is being pursued by Alliance Defending Freedom.
