US Supreme Court backs mass deportations of Haitians and Syrians

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6‑3 that the government may revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS), clearing the way for the removal of roughly 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians and potentially affecting more than one million migrants overall. The majority opinion, written by Justice Samuel Alito, held that the law does not permit courts to review executive decisions on TPS.

The decision follows earlier actions by former Interior Secretary Kristi Noem to terminate TPS for about 15 nationalities, leaving over a million people vulnerable to deportation. Critics argued the move was driven by racial animus, citing former President Donald Trump's remarks about the program’s beneficiaries. Advocates warned that the revocation could force large numbers of vulnerable individuals to return to dangerous conditions in their home countries.
