US Supreme Court backs Trump immigration restrictions

In a series of 6‑3 rulings, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld key elements of President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda. The Court stripped hundreds of thousands of Haitians and Syrians of Temporary Protected Status, approved the use of “metering” to turn away asylum seekers at the U.S.-Mexico border, and lowered the evidentiary standard for removing lawful permanent residents, allowing border agents to deny re‑entry without clear and convincing proof of a crime.

A separate Brookings study found that ICE enforcement in 2025 caused at least 668,000 job losses across 86 metropolitan areas. Los Angeles alone saw a 20‑25% drop in spending in immigrant‑heavy neighborhoods, costing an estimated $625 million. The research concluded that immigrant and native workers are complementary, and aggressive deportations can undermine broader employment and local economies.
