IMF chief Georgieva warns G7 against policies that could worsen global economic crisis
International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva told the G7 finance ministers in Paris that the world economy is in a "very critical" moment. She called for coordinated actions to mitigate the economic fallout from the war in the Middle East and urged governments and central banks to avoid any policy steps that could deepen the crisis.
Georgieva highlighted that financial tensions rise when oil prices stay above $100 a barrel and noted that the effects of international conflicts are already reflected in markets. She stressed the importance of the Paris talks for defining a sensible path forward for global economic policy.
