US Supreme Court Rejects Donald Trump's Appeal in E. Jean Carroll Defamation Case

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear former President Donald Trump's petition to overturn a lower‑court judgment that held him liable for sexual assault and defamation against writer E. Jean Carroll. The decision leaves in place the jury’s May 2023 award of $5 million, which with accrued interest has risen to about $5.8 million.

Carroll’s lawyers filed a petition to enforce the judgment, arguing that all attempts to delay payment have been rejected and that the full amount should now be paid. Trump has continued to deny the accusations, labeling the case a “fake” lawsuit and maintaining other appeals, including a separate $84 million defamation judgment.

The ruling underscores that the Supreme Court will not revisit the case, effectively ending Trump’s immediate legal avenue to overturn the liability finding.
