US survey reveals 80% of Americans face weekly scam texts or emails
A survey of 1,000 Americans conducted by CNET Group indicates that 80% of respondents receive fraudulent text messages or emails at least once per week. The study highlights a growing phenomenon known as “scam fatigue,” where constant digital disruptions and alert overload erode an individual's ability to distinguish legitimate communications from fraudulent ones.
In addition to digital messaging, 75% of participants reported receiving spam phone calls at least once a week. For those experiencing high frequencies of fraud, scam phone calls were particularly prevalent, with 29.4% of respondents reporting receiving such calls six or more times per week. The report notes that the rise of AI-driven scams has increased the potential damage of modern fraud compared to traditional computer viruses.
