US Survey Shows Gen Z Saves More for Vacations Than Retirement

A new report from J.P. Morgan Asset Management, based on a survey of over 2,000 adults, finds that roughly half of Gen Z workers aged 18‑29 in the United States prioritize saving for holidays rather than for retirement. This proportion is higher than any other age group.

The study also notes that most workers across all ages under‑contribute to employer‑sponsored retirement plans such as 401(k)s, leaving many reliant on limited Social Security benefits. High levels of student‑loan debt further push younger adults to focus on short‑term financial needs, with many preferring emergency‑fund savings over long‑term retirement investments.
