U.S. Tap Water Safety Highlighted in Pennsylvania Utility Report
Most public water supplies in the United States meet federal EPA standards, making tap water generally safe to drink, though contaminants such as lead, PFAS, chlorine by‑products, nitrates and arsenic can still be present due to aging infrastructure or local conditions.
Pennsylvania American Water’s 2025 Water Quality Report shows the utility spent more than $722 million on system upgrades, pipeline replacement and treatment improvements to address these risks. The report confirms compliance with state and federal standards, including new limits for PFAS and lead, and urges customers to review their local water quality data.
Both pieces stress that while overall compliance is high, consumers should stay informed about their specific water source and consider additional filtration where needed.
