Trump announces $8 billion Harvest Fuel Relief Program for US farmers

President Donald Trump has announced the Harvest Fuel Relief Program, an $8 billion initiative designed to help American farmers offset rising diesel costs during the harvest season. The program aims to provide financial stability to agricultural producers facing increased input expenses driven by global energy market disruptions.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will administer the funds through the Farm Service Agency. Rather than a direct subsidy to lower pump prices, the program will provide one-time payments to eligible farmers based on a uniform formula. This formula will account for planted acreage, production costs, and projected yields and prices to cover a portion of modeled losses for the 2026 crop year.

The announcement, made during a campaign rally in Kansas, comes ahead of the November midterm elections. It follows a recent executive order intended to expand access to tax-exempt diesel. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins stated that the investment is intended to bring certainty to farmers during the harvest period.
