US traffic safety data identifies Tuesday as the safest day for driving

Data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) indicates that traffic fatalities in the United States are disproportionately concentrated during weekends. In 2024, nearly half of all road deaths occurred between Friday and Sunday.

Tuesday was identified as the safest day of the week for driving, recording 4,875 deaths, which accounted for approximately 12% of the annual total. This is significantly lower than Saturday, which saw 6,780 fatalities. Experts attribute the lower numbers on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to a reduction in recreational travel, nightlife activities, and alcohol-related incidents compared to the weekend.
