U.S. Transportation Command awards $2.7B sealift contract

U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) has awarded the Joint Global Sealift Charter contract to seven commercial shipping companies to support strategic sealift missions. The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity, fixed-price contract has an estimated face value of $1.2 billion, with a cumulative maximum ceiling value of $2.7 billion. The period of performance runs from September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2031.

The contract is designed to provide agility to military logisticians by allowing USTRANSCOM to hire vessels through individual task orders rather than full contract solicitations. This approach aims to expedite the awarding of commercial shipping contracts and provide more predictability for industry partners. The sealift capability is critical for the global movement of large-volume combat forces' rolling stock and associated materiel.

To qualify, participating companies must have at least one roll-on/roll-off, multi-purpose, or vehicle carrier vessel enrolled in the U.S. government’s Voluntary Intermodal Sealift Agreement that has transported Department of War cargo within the past two years.

The seven companies receiving the contract are American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier Group, Farrell Lines Inc, Federated Maritime LLC, Liberty Global Logistics LLC, Patriot Shipping LLC, Schuyler Line Navigation Company LLC, and Waterman Transport Inc.
