U.S. travelers show high interest in historical domestic tours

A survey conducted by EF Go Ahead Tours and Qualtrics Research indicates a significant interest in domestic historical travel among Americans. According to the data, 73% of U.S. travelers expressed interest in tours specifically focused on American history, while only 16% showed disinterest.

This trend is being influenced by the nation’s semiquincentennial, with travelers increasingly drawn to founding cities, battlefields, and landscapes. Among those interested in history-focused travel, 48% cited the American Revolution era as their primary interest, followed by the Civil War, Civil Rights era, the Gilded Age, and World War II.

The research also highlights a gap between interest and actual visitation. While a majority of active travelers have visited New York City and Washington, D.C., fewer have visited key historical sites such as Boston, Philadelphia, Valley Forge, Lexington, Concord, or Yorktown.
