Argentina and Paraguay implement major financial and monetary policy shifts
In Paraguay, the Central Bank (BCP) unanimously decided to maintain the monetary policy interest rate at 5.50% per annum to ensure financial stability. Additionally, the Ministry of Economy launched the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (ENIF) 2026-2031, a roadmap designed to improve access, use, and quality of financial services across the country.
In Argentina, Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced a 2 trillion peso program to stimulate mortgage credit, aiming to provide financing to between 17,000 and 18,000 families through the Sustainability Guarantee Fund (FGS). The government is also adjusting its debt strategy; a recent auction saw the Ministry of Economy adjudicate 12.16 trillion pesos, achieving a 95.96% rollover rate. This decision resulted in the injection of over 500 billion pesos into the market.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina (BCRA) has also been active in the foreign exchange market, recording its largest monthly dollar purchase of 93 million USD on a single Thursday. This brings the total accumulated reserves for 2026 to nearly 14,000 million USD, with gross international reserves reaching approximately 50.86 billion USD.
