US Treasury Digital Asset Adviser Tyler Williams Resigns as CLARITY Act Stalls

Tyler Williams, a senior adviser on digital‑asset policy at the U.S. Treasury and a key aide to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, has left the department, with his departure confirmed on Monday. Williams joined the Treasury in early 2025 after serving as head of policy at Galaxy Digital and was described as “instrumental” in advancing the administration’s goal of making the United States a leading hub for cryptocurrency innovation. He is expected to return to the private sector.

His exit comes as Congress remains deadlocked over the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, a Senate‑required 60‑vote bill aimed at clarifying cryptocurrency regulations. Disagreements over ethics provisions for federal officials have stalled the legislation, prompting analysts at Bernstein to warn that prolonged uncertainty could weigh on digital‑asset prices.
