US Treasury Secretary Bessent rejects economic relief for Russia
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov in Asheville, North Carolina, during a G20 finance ministers and central bank governors gathering.
According to a source speaking to Reuters, Bessent informed Siluanov that Washington will not provide Moscow with economic relief at this time. The official indicated that any future economic agreements are off the table until the military conflict in Ukraine concludes.
The Russian Finance Ministry issued a statement noting the meeting discussed cooperation on financial tracks and within the G20, though it did not address the reported friction. Additionally, a Treasury Department official told CNBC that the two officials discussed a peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.
