US Treasury yields exceed 5% as markets weigh Fed policy
Global financial markets are reacting to rising US Treasury yields, with the 10-year yield surpassing 5%. US futures are trending downward as investors anticipate further interest rate hikes from the Federal Reserve, driven by persistent inflation levels above the 2% target. This sentiment aligns with recent hawkish stances from the European Central Bank.
In Greece, Aegean Airlines reported revenues of €816.5 million for the first half of 2026, a 4% increase year-on-year. However, the company recorded a net loss of €3.3 million compared to a profit of €47.9 million in the same period in 2025, primarily due to rising fuel costs and Middle East instability. Despite this, the airline saw record passenger numbers in July.
Additionally, the Greek Public Power Corporation (PPC) is reportedly in discussions to acquire Flanco Smart Discounter, a major electronics retailer in Romania with over 150 stores. The move is viewed as a strategic effort to expand PPC's consumer footprint in the region.
