Trump Accounts enroll 7 million children, $1.5 billion deposited

The federal government launched the Trump Accounts program on July 4, 2025, offering a $1,000 seed deposit to U.S. children born between 2025 and 2028. The tax‑advantaged accounts are open to any U.S. citizen under 18 with a Social Security number, and families may contribute up to $5,000 per year. Within a year, 7 million children have enrolled, and more than $1.5 billion has been deposited. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the rollout as the most successful launch in government history. About 86 % of participants come from families earning less than $200,000. The accounts grow in low‑cost index funds and, after the child turns 18, operate similarly to a traditional IRA. States are encouraged to enroll foster children, and the Social Security Administration will allow account creation at birth registration. The program is part of the One, Big, Beautiful Bill legislation and is intended to boost financial literacy for the next generation.
