US Trump administration tells Haitian and Syrian TPS migrants to seek permanent residency or depart

Homeland Security Secretary Marquand Mullin announced that migrants in the United States who are currently under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti or Syria must either apply for permanent residency or accept assistance to return to their home countries. He said the administration will provide a plane ticket and roughly $2,100 to help with resettlement.

The statement follows a Supreme Court ruling that permits the Trump administration to end TPS for hundreds of thousands of Haitians and Syrians. While the administration moves to terminate the humanitarian protection, the State Department continues to warn travelers about violence and crime in both Haiti and Syria. The announcement came as the Senate approved a $70 billion immigration‑enforcement funding package.
