US, UK and Global Regulators Tighten Crypto and Stablecoin Rules
The United States and the United Kingdom reaffirmed their coordination on digital‑asset oversight during the 13th session of the US‑UK Financial Regulatory Working Group in London on July 8. The joint statement highlighted progress on the U.S. GENIUS Act, tokenisation initiatives, and alignment with the G20 Cross‑border Payments Roadmap, but no new rules were announced.
At the same time, regulators worldwide are accelerating crypto oversight. In the United States, the SEC has pursued enforcement actions against major exchanges and token projects while Congress advances the Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act (FIT21) and a separate stablecoin bill. Europe is rolling out the Markets in Crypto‑Assets (MiCA) framework, beginning with stablecoin requirements, and Asian hubs are updating licensing and supervision regimes. These coordinated efforts aim to protect investors, ensure market integrity and integrate crypto assets into existing financial‑market structures.
