US Universities Expand AI Graduation Requirements and Programs

Purdue University announced that all new students must demonstrate working competency in artificial intelligence to meet graduation requirements, as explained by senior vice provost Haley Oliver‑Jischke.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo launched a business analytics and AI concentration and an AI‑for‑business certificate for all majors. Professors Sukhwa Hong and Chenbo Shi highlighted that the curriculum includes a new introductory AI course, revised business analytics and text‑mining classes, mandatory data‑science coursework, and a focus on AI ethics and responsible use. Both institutions aim to equip graduates with AI skills needed in the evolving job market, while acknowledging the pace at which AI technology changes.
