US Universities Launch New AI Degree Programs

The University of Mary Washington (UMW) in Virginia has introduced the state’s first Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence in Business. The 30‑credit, fully online program can be completed in as little as one year and aims to equip graduates with practical skills in machine learning, data analytics and ethical AI. “The MS in AI in Business is designed to equip students with the knowledge and applied skills to integrate AI technologies into organizational strategy, operations and innovation,” said UMW Provost Tim O’Donnell.

The University of Utah’s John and Marcia Price College of Engineering and Kahlert School of Computing have launched the state’s first Bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, set to admit its first cohort for the Fall 2026 semester. The interdisciplinary curriculum will cover core AI topics such as machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision and robotics, and will pair technical training with ethics and societal impact. “Utah has always been on the forefront of computing education,” noted Mary Hall, Director of the Kahlert School of Computing.

Both programs reflect a growing trend among U.S. higher‑education institutions to offer dedicated AI degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels, targeting the rapidly expanding AI job market.
