U.S. Used-Car Market Prices Dip as CarGurus Enforces Fee Disclosure
A Black Book market report showed wholesale prices for used vehicles fell 0.45% in the most recent week and the auction conversion rate slipped by one point to 56%. The strongest demand was for clean, late‑model passenger cars and hybrid/electric models, while mainstream SUVs, crossovers and pickups continued to face pricing pressure. Specialty trucks, high‑content luxury vehicles and certain crossover models retained premium prices, and the average retail turnaround time remained around 34 days.
Starting July 14, CarGurus required dealers to disclose all fees on used‑car listings. More than 90% of inventory now includes disclosed fees; listings that omit fees receive a “No Rating” label and rank lower in search results. New badges indicate fee presence and a filter lets shoppers exclude non‑disclosed listings. CEO Jason Trevisan said the changes improve transparency for buyers and dealers alike.
