U.S. Venture Capital Fuels Larger Late‑Stage Funding for Lithuanian Startups
Lithuanian technology companies have increasingly attracted sizable investments from United States venture‑capital funds, but the capital typically arrives in later financing rounds after the firms have proven their business models. The Innovation Agency notes that U.S. investors favour Series B and C stages, deploying hundreds of millions to a smaller pool of companies that already demonstrate product‑market fit, international customers and strong teams.
Prominent deals include funding for Nord Security, Cast AI and the e‑commerce platform Ovoko. In 2024 Ovoko secured a €20 million Series B round from the U.S. fund Smash Capital, a transaction highlighted by Ovoko’s managing director Saulius Česnulevičius. Economy and Innovation Minister Edvinas Grikšas and Startup Lithuania head Karolina Urbonaitė said the growing U.S. interest signals the maturity of Lithuania’s innovation ecosystem and its ability to compete globally, while also creating high‑value jobs and supporting economic growth.
The pattern reflects a strategic shift where local and Baltic investors focus on early‑stage support, leaving later‑stage scaling and international expansion to larger foreign capital sources.
