U.S. Veterans Affairs funds Fresno VA upgrades and completes San Diego spinal‑injury hospital

The Department of Veterans Affairs allocated $1,012,679 to the Fresno VA Medical Center for site‑access improvements, physical‑security upgrades, roof‑anchor installation, relocation of resident rooms on the sixth floor and renovation of pulmonary‑medicine space on the fifth floor. Executive Director Froy Garza said the money “allows VA Central California to continue modernizing and improving, so our facility remains safe, efficient, and equipped to provide high‑quality care for our Veterans in the Central Valley.”

In San Diego, a new $205 million, 200,000‑square‑foot spinal‑cord injury facility adjacent to the Jennifer Moreno VA Medical Center has been finished after five years of construction and several delays. The 50‑bed center, including 20 long‑term‑care beds, is slated to open for patients in early 2027. Louis Irvin of Paralyzed Veterans of America emphasized the “massive need for long‑term care for spinal cord injuries,” while veteran Richard Johnson highlighted the importance of “continuity of care” for the roughly 850 veterans the center serves across Southern California, Arizona and Nevada.
