Indonesian Rupiah Faces Mixed Outlook Amid Data Releases and US‑Iran De‑escalation

Analysts expect the Indonesian rupiah to fluctuate between Rp 17,950 and Rp 18,100 per U.S. dollar after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the cancellation of a planned strike on Iran, raising hopes for peace in the Middle East. Luk Leong of Doo Financial Futures said the geopolitical easing could limit the dollar’s safe‑haven appeal and allow modest rupiah gains.

At the same time, a series of domestic economic releases – including a projected trade‑balance deficit of $0.79 billion, month‑on‑month inflation of 0.1 % and year‑on‑year inflation of 3.2 % – are expected to put downward pressure on the currency. Ibrahim Assuaibi warned that upcoming data on the trade balance, consumer‑price index, foreign‑exchange reserves, manufacturing PMI and consumer‑confidence index could push the rupiah toward Rp 18,250‑18,300 per dollar. The currency closed at Rp 18,022 on 31 July 2026, and market participants are watching both the data and the geopolitical backdrop for cues on the next move.
