US voters disapprove of taxpayer-funded political ads amid GOP candidate challenges

A Reuters/Ipsos poll indicates that 86 percent of American voters disapprove of using taxpayer funds for political advertisements featuring the president. The controversy stems from a $20 million series of 30-second ads marked ‘Paid for by the U.S. Government.’ While the White House defended the spots as patriotic public service announcements, Donald Trump stated he would pay for them through his MAGA Inc PAC if they were found to be improperly funded.

Separately, analysis of Republican candidate favorability suggests broader challenges for the GOP ahead of the November midterms. Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton holds the lowest net favorability rating among comparable Republican nominees, with a net rating of -14 percent according to a database of polls. Other nominees, such as North Carolina’s Michael Whatley and Kansas Senator Roger Marshall, also face significant polling challenges and controversies.
