US Voters Seek Congressional Checks on Trump Amid Healthcare Funding Concerns
A recent Strength In Numbers/Verasight poll indicates that voters desire the next Congress to act as a check on President Trump’s power, particularly regarding trade, tariffs, healthcare, and immigration. The survey shows that registered voters prefer electing Democrats to Congress over Republicans by a margin of 52% to 41%. Additionally, President Trump’s job approval has reached near-record lows for his second term, with 34% approval and 62% disapproval.
Separately, rural hospitals in the United States are expressing hesitation regarding the Rural Healthcare Transformation Program (RHTP). While the initiative was designed to inject $50 billion into rural communities over five years to offset massive federal healthcare funding cuts, the grant structure has faced criticism.
Alan Morgan, CEO of the National Rural Health Association, noted that many small hospitals find the application process too burdensome for their limited staff. There are also concerns regarding the potential for funding clawbacks, which has deterred some institutions from applying for state-administered grants.
