US Wall Street mixed as earnings season peaks, SpaceX posts smaller quarterly loss

U.S. equity markets opened with mixed performance as the earnings season intensified. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose, the Nasdaq Composite fell, and the S&P 500 remained near flat. Companies such as Warner Bros. Discovery, Fox, Airbnb, Lyft and Dropbox released results that highlighted a split between traditional‑economy and technology stocks. Recent labor‑market data showing low unemployment‑benefit claims suggested a still‑tight U.S. job market, keeping inflation pressures in focus for investors.

SpaceX reported a quarterly loss of $541 million, well below analysts’ expectations, while revenue surged 90% to $7.8 billion. Starlink subscriber numbers doubled to 12 million, driving a 66% year‑over‑year increase in connectivity revenue. The company’s AI‑related spending rose sharply to $18 billion. SpaceX shares jumped 9% after the earnings release but later gave back most of the gain, trading around half of their June peak.
