US wedding dress retailers adapt to rising Ozempic use
The rising popularity of GLP-1 weight loss medications, such as Ozempic, is creating unexpected challenges for the wedding dress industry in the United States. According to a survey by wedding planning platform Zola, approximately 10% of couples are considering using these drugs, originally developed for diabetes, to achieve rapid physical transformations before their wedding day.
This trend has forced bridal retailers to adapt their business models. Some designers, such as Anne Barge, have updated their terms to advise clients to disclose significant weight loss plans, noting that customers might need to purchase entirely new dresses if they lose more than three sizes. In contrast, larger retailers like David’s Bridal have introduced fit guarantees to ensure dresses remain suitable for the wedding day, a measure that is more financially difficult for smaller boutique businesses to sustain.
