US weighs military options against Cuba over alleged drone shipments
Pentagon officials have examined contingency plans for a large‑scale air strike on Cuba, including the possible deployment of thousands of troops from the 101st Airborne Division. The scenario, described as a "massive air attack," is deemed unlikely as U.S. military resources are currently focused on operations in the Middle East against Iran.
President Trump posted a video on X stating that the United States is "investigating" whether Cuba is acquiring Iranian drones and warned that Washington would act if the allegations are confirmed. Experts say the drone claim may be used as a pretext for a broader military move to pressure the Cuban government. Pentagon spokesperson Joel Valdez said, "We do not comment on hypothetical military operations."
The island is also facing a severe humanitarian crisis, with nationwide blackouts, shortages, high inflation and arrests of political opponents, adding domestic pressure to the international tension.
