US Wi‑Fi 7 Adoption Surges to Over 7% of Market

Adoption of the Wi‑Fi 7 wireless standard in the United States has accelerated sharply. According to Ookla Speedtest data, the share of Wi‑Fi 7 routers rose from 1.8 % of the market in Q1 2025 to 7.2 % in Q1 2026, a more‑than‑four‑fold increase. The growth is driven primarily by ISP‑supplied equipment rather than consumer‑purchased routers.

Charter Communications’ Spectrum brand now accounts for the largest portion of U.S. Wi‑Fi 7 traffic, contributing roughly 24.9 % of all Speedtest samples, followed by Comcast’s Xfinity network at about 12.4 %. Fiber providers such as Lumen Technologies (formerly CenturyLink) and Frontier Communications show the highest penetration rates, each exceeding 14 % of their subscriber bases, while cable operators provide the bulk of total traffic due to their larger customer pools. The broader rollout has coincided with falling prices for Wi‑Fi 7 routers and rising median download speeds for U.S. broadband users.
