US women arrested in separate animal cruelty cases

In Charleston, South Carolina, 34‑year‑old Anquesha Nareonte Smalls was taken into custody on 29 animal‑cruelty charges after police discovered dozens of cats trapped in a vacant home, many dead and severely malnourished. Investigators recovered the skeletal remains of 20 cats, rescued one living kitten that later required humane euthanasia, and found three additional survivors.

In Brookhaven, Georgia, 25‑year‑old Valentina Tobon Henao faces a felony animal‑cruelty charge after a witness reported that she threw multiple kittens from a moving Toyota Sienna on Osborne Road. Officers recovered a dead kitten at the scene and continue to investigate the total number of animals involved and any surviving kittens.
