US Women Falling Short on Recommended Daily Fiber Intake

Recent dietary data show that more than 90 % of American women do not meet the recommended 25 grams of fiber per day, a shortfall linked to higher risks of cancer and poor gut health. Nutrition expert Vanessa Rissetto, co‑founder and CEO of Culina Health, urges greater consumption of high‑fiber foods such as chia seeds, oats, broccoli, berries, whole‑grain wheat, beans, nuts and potatoes.

Separately, nutritionist Jessica Shand explains that protein needs vary by age, activity level and body weight. She recommends 1 g of protein per kilogram for sedentary adults, 1.6–2.2 g/kg for active individuals, and 1.2–1.5 g/kg for those over 65. Meeting these guidelines supports muscle maintenance, stable blood sugar and overall metabolic health.

Both experts emphasize that protein should be part of a balanced plate that also includes fiber, healthy fats and micronutrient‑rich whole foods.
