US youth show rising support for Sharia law in new poll
Recent polling data indicates rising positive views toward Sharia law among young Americans as midterm elections approach. According to a Rasmussen Reports survey, 43% of voters aged 18-24 expressed positive views of the Islamic legal code, while 27% of voters under the age of 30 stated they would support a community adopting Sharia law.
Experts suggest this trend may be linked to a lack of balanced instruction in American universities and a reluctance among students to challenge religious topics for fear of being labeled racist. The reports note that Sharia law, based on the Quran and hadith, includes various religious mandates and punishments that vary by country.
The polling emerges during a period of increased visibility for Muslim political candidates, such as Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed. While El-Sayed’s campaign has stated he opposes any effort to incorporate religious faith laws into national law, he has also criticized previous legislative efforts to ban Sharia law in the United States.
