USA Basketball defeats Chile 89-71 in World Cup Qualifier

The United States men's basketball team defeated Chile 89-71 in Santiago as part of the FIBA Men’s World Cup Qualifying tournament for the 2027 event in Qatar. Cole Swider led the American scoring with 19 points, supported by 15 points from Orlando Robinson II.

Chile struggled early in the match, trailing 8-23 after the first quarter. While the Chilean team improved in the subsequent quarters, the initial deficit proved insurmountable. The game experienced a 25-minute delay during the third quarter due to electrical issues with the electronic scoreboard at the Centro Ismenia Pauchard.

USA Basketball had previously announced a 12-man roster for this August window featuring a mix of NBA, G League, and international veterans under the leadership of head coach Terry Stotts. The U.S. currently holds a 5-1 record in the second round of the Americas qualifying group.
