USA conducts deportations of non-nationals to African countries

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has conducted a series of deportations to African nations as part of a broader campaign by the Trump administration to relocate individuals to third countries. Government documents obtained by CBS News reveal that three recent flights transported deportees to countries including Cameroon, Burundi, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, and the Central African Republic.

Notably, none of the individuals deported to these African nations were originally from those countries. The group of deportees included citizens from Afghanistan, Cuba, Nicaragua, Iran, Nepal, Turkey, and Venezuela, as well as some African nationals.

This strategy relies on agreements with over 30 countries, including several in Latin America and an increasing number in Africa, such as South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Some of these recipient nations, such as the Central African Republic and Liberia, have accepted deportees from Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Concerns have been raised regarding the political instability and human rights conditions in some of the destination countries.
